Mackenzie grew up in the Pacific Northwest where she enjoyed a childhood spent running through forests, building forts and making pies out of wild berries. The imaginative moments of her youth sometimes work their way into her paintings, but quite often there is no real meaning to them -- they're just a combination of thoughts and people in her life that have no relation to each other, but happen to find a place together on canvas. She is part of an informal collective called ToOmie, whose members take cues from street art, surrealism, and abstract styles to create works that speak to their views on life, especially "the beauty in the little things."
